Caveman Clothing

Authored September 2001

Unfortunately it appears that Caveman Clothing has gone out of business... or something. I can't find any information about them, what happened or why they've done this to me. If anybody learns of a reliable source for Cavewear please let me know!

I only wear Caveman T-Shirts from Caveman Clothing. I wear them every day, work or play.

I have an admission to make: I'm a big, fat, thick-necked person. I can't button the top button of most shirts and I find it hard to breath while wearing a tie. The only suit I've ever owned is the one I was married in. I bike 40 or 50 miles a week and I have a three year-old son to chase. I'm stubborn, I get worked up over what I believe in and I sweat a lot. I wear steel-toed boots and get stopped at the airport because of it. All of that's hard on clothes.

Caveman Clothing makes clothes for guys like me. Tough, sturdy, well designed clothes. Recently they've branched off into slacks, boxers, golf shirts, sweatshirts, etc., but I've found that all I need is a half dozen or so of their Embroidered T-Shirts (seen modeled here in a before bed-time bubble session) and I'm set for nearly any occasion. The shirts are incredibly tough: triple stitched and made of thick, 100% cotton. In the two years that I've been wearing these regularly I've yet to rip or wear through one: other T-Shirts I bought at the same time have disintegrated under much less wear. They're also comfortable: wide necks and sleeves that hang well from a neandertal frame.

The Embroidered T-Shirts sport a small oval logo (about 3 by 1 1/2 inches) on the back and a small caveman embroidered on the right breast (unobtrusive enough to meet most "office casual" guidelines). Caveman Clothing doesn't skimp on fabric as these shirts can be worn easily tucked or untucked as the occasion demands. The color choices are strong, but subdued and are pre-faded. The material is all-natural, but still wrinkle-resistant. You can throw one of these shirts on the floor and put it back on the next morning without looking like you're wearing clothing from the floor.

All this comes at the premium but completely reasonable price of $22 a shirt direct from Caveman Clothing's web site. Considering that these shirts last at least twice as long as your average $15 T-Shirt, this is quite the bargain. My mother, who lives in Houston, sent me my first few shirts (one of the only times in my life that I enjoyed my mom buying clothes for me) from what was then a small, local company. Caveman Clothing has since spread and is now available at dozens of retailers across the country (although none yet in Massachusetts).

The Caveman Clothing motto is "I'll Decide". That's good. And so are their clothes.
