Human Factors and Usability
- useit.com: The frequently updated site of user interface guru Jakob Nielsen. His bi-weekly column "Alertbox" should be required reading for anybody publishing online.
- Usability.gov: A warehouse of useful information presented by the National Cancer Institute.
- The Vertical Research UI Index: A well-constructed gallery of links featuring commentary on each.
- Usable Web: An enormous and well-maintained collection of links concerning web usability.
- Interface Hall of Shame: In-depth inventories of many popular products as well as truly excellent articles on the topic of interface design.
- Microsoft Usability Research: Love them or hate them when most people think "user interface" they picture a Windows program.
- User Interface Engineering: A consulting group that uses its resources to test many of the assumptions of interface design. You may be suprised at what they find.
General Web Design
- Webreview: A tremendous amount of good information on all aspects of Web design and technology.
- Webmonkey: Focusing somewhat more closely on the more technical aspects of programming for the web this excellent resource has a lot to offer designers of all levels.
- Web Developer's Virtual Library: Coverage of all aspects of web design, graphical design, and web application programming.
- HTMLcenter: Covering HTML and related technologies with a broad, but very effective stroke.
General Graphical Design
- Will-Harris House: The site for anybody that feels that the right typeface is essential to creating the user experience (and that should include anybody publishing online).
- Pixel Politics: A good site covering more than just pretty pictures.
- Corel Designer: The design resource for our favorite suite of graphics tools, CorelDraw! The site covers general graphic and color theory and offers monthly free downloads.
