This is one of those super-cheap, mostly ad-libbed, slice-of-life art films that tend to be fatally dull and terminally uninteresting. Only very rarely does the formula result in something worthwhile. Although this has some problems getting up to speed and staying there, happily it’s one of those.

Apparently the idea for this movie was the result of an extended discussion on writer/director Kevin Smith’s [IMDB] podcast. How about a guy, the joke went, that captures people and tries to turn them into walruses? The gag picked up steam, Smith got excited and made a movie.

Yes, this movie caused an international cluster-fuck. Yes, it prominently features the (spoiler!) violent death of a world leader. Yes, it was the excuse that a bunch of assholes used to gut-punch an international film company and the thousands of people that work there.
There is one important question, of course: is it any good?

You know those annoying fanboys that believe that their favorite director can do no wrong? They’ll talk about them endlessly, insist other people pay attention to them and challenge anybody that says the least critical thing about them. They make fools of themselves as they ignore obvious issues and rationalize away every shortcoming.

There’s an elephant in the room with this one and it’s kind of a stupid elephant. Like those stuck-up ones in “Dumbo” that didn’t like him because of his ears; lobe-ist bitches.
This is not “Black Annie”.

I’m having difficulty reviewing this one. I can’t honestly say where I fall on it. It’s probably damning with faint praise to say that it’s absolutely harmless. It is true, however: this movie will not harm you or your family in any way.
Comedy, 112 Minutes, 2014
This movie is so tongue-in-cheek introspective it hurts. Fourth-wall breaks, self-commentary and an almost supernatural self-awareness account for a huge percentage of the humor. This is a sequel, and it reminds you of that loudly, blatantly and often.
