I’m not-live blogging our Extra-Life 2015 Marathon! We’re eight hours in and going strong! Our team, The Vidiots, could still use donations! We can always use more sick kids; they’re so inspiring! It’s dinner time, so we decided on a stack of pizza and rousing game of Munchkin using way too many expansions!
I’m not-live blogging our Extra-Life 2015 Marathon! More games, more fun! Our team, The Vidiots, could still use donations, if you like. We can always use more sick kids; they’re so inspiring!
We’ve been playing:
Even more Super Smash Bros. Wii-U. This is going to be a near constant with this crowd.
I’m not-live blogging our Extra-Life 2015 Marathon! After subjecting ourselves to the horror that is “Pixels”, we’re back to playing! Our team, The Vidiots, could still use donations, if you like. We can always use more sick kids; they’re so inspiring! Since the movie ended, we’ve played:
More Super Smash Bros. Wii-U. This is going to be a near constant with this crowd.
Our man playing Fallout 3 has decided that it’s his mission to move all of the shopping carts in the wasteland to the Super Duper Mart. Well, “mission”, may be a strong word; let’s say “hobby”, instead.
At some point it was also decided that every time anybody started to sing “Mad World“, everybody had to join in or face undetermined consequences:
As part of our Extra-Life 2015 Marathon our team, The Vidiots, raised hundreds of dollars for sick kids and, as a unwarranted slap in the face, we made them watch this. They were protected, somewhat, by the portable games they were playing, but several still suffered terribly.
I’m not-live blogging our Extra-Life 2015 Marathon, and I’m already running behind. We’ve got 10 teenage boys locked in varying forms of mortal combat.
Our team, The Vidiots, have raised $383 for sick kids so far. You can still donate, if you like – we can always use more sick kids; they’re so inspiring! This hour we’ve played:
The SteamLink has been a huge success – when connected to PlayStation Dual Shock 4 controllers (the Steam Controller itself isn’t getting great reviews, sorry Valve). There was some hectic action in Lethal League and Skull Girls.
The was also some weirdness. Several people were introduced to the bizarre The Static Speaks my Name and somebody brought a Sega Genesis and subjected a small, but dedicated contingent to the marvels of Shaq-Fu.
We’re heading towards lunch soon. Here’s some eye candy for you:
Shaq-Fu was… and experience.
Pretty sneaky, sis!
We’re putting quite the load on the circuit breaker!
We’ll have more professional photos later. For now it’s cell-phone amatuer hour.
I’ll be not-live blogging our Extra-Life 2015 Marathon at, with any luck, about an hour delay. Amazingly, nearly everybody that planned to show up, has. More amazingly for a group of teenagers, they were all on time. There are still a couple of holdouts, but we’ve got more than enough to make this count!

Here are a few shots of our lovely home before the invasion.
We’re getting ready to kick off our Extra-Life 2015 Marathon! In a little over 12 hours we will be invaded by nearly a dozen 17 year-old boys. They will fill our humble home with the sights, sounds and smells (oh, dear lordy me, the smells!) of charity! And gaming. Lots of gaming.
Our team, The Vidiots, have currently raised $345 for sick kids. You can still donate, if you like – we can always use more sick kids; they’re so inspiring!
We’ve got a PS4, a PS3, a Wii-U, a regular-old Wii and an impressive tower of board, card and dice games. Our brand new Steam Link is ready to bring PC games to our TV and a proud, lonely PlayStation Vita stands united with a short-stack of Nintendo DS’s for private play. Controllers are charged and stacked like cordwood. Plentiful snacks are at hand! Caffeinated beverages are standing by!
I’ve written at somelengthabout The Last of Us in the past. Recently, having never played the “remastered” PS4 edition, I’ve restarted the game. It’s sparked the same depth of interest that I had initially and I came across this wonderful video that had slipped past my attention.
To promote the PS4 edition of the game, Naughty Dog and Playstation arranged for this one-night-only performance of the games most memorable scenes and music by the original cast and composer.
[Although this is the official video, Playstation inexplicably kept the 30 minute timer countdown intact. I’ve skipped it.]
The joy and passion that the performers bring to the roles and the camaraderie that clearly developed offers a clean, new perspective on the work. The writing and performances are top-tier regardless of the genre or medium and seeing them celebrated this way is a real treat for fans.
After several days of teasing the Internets, Bethesda Game Studios have come through with the first trailer for the insanely anticipated Fallout 4. Confirming prior rumors in grand form, this game will be set in Boston, baby!
I lived most of my adult life in Boston and am now salivating even more for this game. As much as I adored “The Last of Us” [My Review] and its Boston-based areas, it was a linear game that featured just a small handful of well-known locations.
The pedigree of Fallout guarantees that we’re sure to see dozens of landmarks, buildings and neighborhoods (come on Davis Square!) and be able to spend hundreds of hours poking through every dilapidated corner.
There’s no release date yet, but we can only hope for more details to be revealed at Bethesda’s E3 Showcase, a first for them, on Sunday, June 14th at 7:00pm PT.
My lovely bride has decided to bring all work on DepressedPress to a complete standstill by buying me “Dragon Age: Inquisition”. Playing now. Can’t stop.
Here are some exploding hyenas to hold you over.
I’ll be back. Someday. Just have to gather 30 more Elfroot.., then 30 more…
