Movie Review: Freaky Deaky

IMDB, Freaky Deaky“Freaky Deaky” on IMDB

Crime/Comedy, 90 Minutes, 2012

Set in 1974, this feels like someone’s attempt to create a syndicated show for my grandmother. Billy Burke [IMDB] plays Chris Mankowski, a no-nonsense, right-before-rules cop with an attitude. He’s so manly they had to put it right there in his name! Formerly on the bomb squad, he had some troubles and is now riding a desk in the sex crimes unit.

Horror/Thriller, 99 Minutes, 2012

You know how you feel when you do a bunch of acid, then watch a sci-fi movie marathon while listening to Pixies albums hoping that something syncs up, then consider masturbating but do mescaline instead? Well, I don’t either, but I suspect David Wong [IMDB] might.

Family, 92 Minutes, 2014

Hey kids, it’s a computer animated family film based on an old cartoon! There are topical references! There are nostalgic references! There are puns! Surprisingly, it’s not that bad. I mean, hell, it’s not that great either, but in the vast technicolor sea of computer-vomited slop it’s… not that bad.

Movie Review: High School

IMDB, High School“High School” on IMDB

Comedy, 99 Minutes, 2010

Being on top is hard. Being in high school is hard. Being on top in high school is really hard. So it’s easy to forgive Henry (Mat Bush [IMDB]) for blowing off some steam when he reconnects with an old friend and, um, partakes of the herb. Problem is that his overbearing dean has also just announced mandatory drug testing for the next day. So a plan is hatched to invalidate the test by ensuring that every single person that takes it, fails it.

Movie Review: Ryan Kwanten Double Feature

IMDB, Ryan KwantenMost people know Ryan Kwanten [IMDB] from HBO’s “True Blood” [IMDB] where he plays the innocent, slightly dim, sexually charged Jason Stackhouse. On the show he’s the token human among vampires, werewolves, mediums, faeries, shape-shifters, ghosts and witches (yes, that show has gotten damn complicated). He’s the character we can identify with and who exposes our foibles in ways we can understand.
