This is a formulaic, by-the-numbers, utterly predictable, totally forgettable buddy-cop comedy. The characters are clichéd. So are their problems and the solutions they pursue. Still, for all that, it’s pretty damn funny.

Holy shit, something’s missing! Something important and/or valuable and/or embarrassing! Something owned by nice people whom we would like see find it! Nice people with wacky, madcap friends that have good intentions, but ultimately only seem to hinder their search! A search that regularly encounters ridiculous, almost surreal obstacles!

This movie has a song dedicated to female masturbation with the lines, “Straight to the moon, touching your happy spot! Fly through your sensual universe… you hold the power to pleasure yourself!” You’re probably curious, but I’m not sure you need to know more than that.

Hey Seth MacFarlane [IMDB], whatchoo doin’ make’n a Western, huh? Sure, comedy Westerns are a woefully underrepresented genre, but do you really think this is a niche you should try and fill?

This one was trouble. Seth Rogan [IMDB] is great, Rose Byrne [IMDB] is great, Dave Franco [IMDB] is pretty good and Zac Efron [IMDB] is definitely there. These are all proven quantities that have (almost) all produced quality laughs in the past. The cast doesn’t seem to be the problem.

I so wanted to like this. It’s an amazing cast of some of the hottest names in comedy. Just look at that poster! Adam Scott [IMDB]! Richard Jenkins [IMDB]! Catherine O’Hara [IMDB]! Amy Poehler [IMDB]! Clark Duke [IMDB]! Jessica Alba [IMDB]! Jane Lynch [IMDB]! How could this go wrong?!

Luckily, very little of this movie is about coffee; I never did like the stuff. That doesn’t stop people from trying to get me to like it. They’ll say, “It’s an acquired taste!” as they stare glassily and talk about “beans” and “pods” and French things.
Comedy, 120 Minutes, 2010
This is a perfectly harmless, perfectly average comedy with perhaps just a bit too much going on. Like so many average movies there’s not much to specifically recommend it; but there’s also not much to specifically criticize.

Have you ever experienced that moment when you make a reference to some hilarious movie and all you get is blank stares? Even when you’re positive that you watched the movie with that person? Like you can literally remember sitting in a room with them and watching the specific scene you referenced, but they have no idea what you’re talking about?

Imogene (Kristen Wiig [IMDB]) did it! She escaped her crazy family – and New Jersey – found a great guy and is finally making it in New York City. She is absolutely ready to enjoy the very best years of her life! That is, at least, until her career and relationship hit the shitter. That sends her straight into nervous breakdown territory and she’s forced to move back in with her mother.
